MY ADVENTURES IN CUB SCOUTING
POINT OF INTEREST

Take a look at the Cub Scout Trail in the Cub
Scout Handbooks. Notice
how each is a part of a
single mural? Notice also
how the "leader" is larger
and then becomes smaller
as the Scouts move along?
Then you "bridge" into the
Boy Scouts. That's the Cub
Scout trail!

THE CUB SCOUT PROGRAM

Cub Scouts is a year-round family- and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for boys in the first through fifth grade (or who are 7, 8, 9, and 10 years old).

Bobcat Cubs learn the basics of Cub Scouting and is now the first rank that a Cub Scout earns regardless of when he enters the Cub Scout program.

Tiger Cubs are first graders who with their adult partners learn about leadership, community, and family.

Wolf and Bear Cubs (second and third graders) emphasize character development, citizenship, and personal fitness.

Webelos Scouts are fourth and fifth graders who participate in the more advanced Webelos Program to prepare for Boy Scouts.

Cub Scouts are assigned to a "Den" with other boys their age and they work as a team with a Den Leader and Assistant Den Leader. The attend weekly Den meetings, a monthly Pack meeting and may take field trips or go "family" camping.

Cub Scouts generally require participation with a parent (adult partner).

Advancement is done via Requirements which are necessary for rank advancement and Electives which while not required, enhance a boy's scouting experience.

In addition to family outings and camping trips, Cub Scouts may also participate the following:

Pinewood Derby, where the boys build and race their own "pinewood derby cars." Space Derby, where the boys build and race "rocket ships." Raingutter Regatta, where the boys build and sail "boats" in raingutters.
Cubmobile, where the boys (with adult help of course) build and race "soapbox derby" type cars.

There are also various Pack, District and Council level activities which they can also participate in, and plenty of other opportunities where they can earn awards and most importantly have fun while learning.
